As the fan widens from the handle to the tip, it is called "Suehirogari" and symbolises prosperity for the future.
The surface of the fan is also called "Jigami" and many different designs were enjoyed.
This obi is a luxurious obi called a "maru obi" with a full pattern on both sides, a style that is no longer made today, and as it is woven with many fans using gold thread, it is thought to have been worn by married women on celebratory occasions.
