道行と呼ばれる、着物の上に羽織るコートのようなアイテムです。
外出時に着用し、目的地に着いたら脱ぐのが特徴です。
描かれているのは「稚児文様」と呼ばれる、小さな子どもが遊ぶ姿を表した柄です。
本来は子どもの健やかな成長を願って子ども用着物に用いられることが多い文様ですが、このように大人の外出着に取り入れられているところに、作り手の遊び心が感じられます。
白く染め抜かれた上から一人ひとり丁寧に彩色されており、それぞれ表情が異なるのも魅力です。

This piece is a Michiyuki, a coat-like outer garment worn over kimono and traditionally removed once you arrive at your destination.
It features the Chigo motif, depicting small children at play. Originally used on children’s kimono as a wish for healthy growth, its use on adult outerwear reflects the artist’s sense of playfulness.
Each child is individually coloured over a white-dyed base, giving every expression its own unique charm.
