Material: Silk
This kimono is called Tomesode, and is the highest formal attire worn by married women.
The family crest of a bellflower is drawn in colour removal (“Nuki-mon” which is the technique to dye the shape of the crest white) on the upper centre and sleeves.
This crest is also drawn on the front body and is called “Itsutsu-mon” (the five crests), and this number also expresses the high status.
A distinctive feature of Tomesode is that there is no pattern on the top of the kimono, only the hem pattern.
The pattern on the hem is a diamond-shaped frame called Matsukawa-bishi, which depicts a pheasant standing quietly on a rock surrounded by pine trees.
It is said that the pheasant has beautiful feathers and strong maternal love, which means the prosperity of offspring.
This is the history of this kimono before they meet you.
Now they will make another history with you.
